The car-filled with my best friend and myself plus her two younger siblings- pulled up to the side of the quaint main street of Cazenovia. We were taking a quick detour to meet my best friend’s mom for dinner before driving to Syracuse University for the night. The street was lined with yummy restaurants, cozy cafes, and little boutiques. Every shop was lit as the sun had set a couple of hours ago on Upstate NY. The little street was so beautiful that it seemed like it was straight out of the fictional town of Rosewood from Pretty Little Liars.
With my coat in hand, I swung open the car door and it smacked right into a pile of snow. As the passenger, I was too busy directing my friend to our destination to notice the snow accumulation. And having spent the past month an hour south where there was only a dust of frost, seeing snow was quite the surprise. Realizing that my coat in my arm wasn’t enough to protect me for the winter cold, I quickly grabbed my hat, scarf, and gloves as well.
Winter had finally arrived. And I was sure bummed out. Being the biggest fan of this year’s El Nino, I was hoping that snow and cold and winter itself was going to skip out on us this year. But navigating through potentially icy sidewalks and wrapping my scarf around my face to protect me from the biting air made me realize that winter was just late, not absent.
My friend’s mom was running late so we took refuge from the cold in the coziest little teahouse. A fireplace welcomed us into a warm and inviting atmosphere. The owner of the store gave us peppermint tea to sip on as we waited for her. It’s funny. Winter probably ranks on my list of things I like the least. But without winter, cozy tea and warm fireplaces wouldn’t be the same. While snow and cold suck, it’s nice to be cozy for the winter.
My warm winter has finally come to an end. Thankfully, I am prepared as I have bought the coziest knit hat and scarf from Forever 21. The oatmeal color of them make it perfect for every outfit and coat. And they sure keep me warm and cozy for the winter!
